Statement

Nick Scammell maintains a practice where photography and literature collude. Fascinated by where the image meets the word, where the material meets the digital and where the ancient meets the modern, Nick uses scanners to explore the performance of surface and the transformation of the tangible into digital rumour.

Biography

Nick Scammell’s practice cuts across photography and literature and frequently involves collaboration. His debut collection of poetry, London: Ghost Autopsy, was a Stride Magazine book of the year for 2009 and accompanied his first solo photographic exhibition of the same name. Having curated and exhibited with the Goldsmiths-affiliated collective Crossing Lines, Nick completed his MA Photography at LCC in 2014. He was short-listed for the Photoworks OPEN14, and invited to exhibit in This New Feeling at Central Saint Martins in 2015. NYZ, a collaboration which treats New York City as surface, symptom and attitude, was profiled in the Photoworks Annual. Nick is also co-founder of the curatorial project AFTER, which showcases recently-graduated and early-career artists through exhibitions and digital residencies. He lives and works in London.
